THE SPIRITUALITY OF WRITING: WILLINGNESS
I could easily hole up inside my bubble of creativity, doing only the parts of the writing task that I find joyful and rewarding. But I must also be willing to do the parts of the job that don’t excite me. Producing a book involves tasks that make me want to scream in frustration and tear out my hair. Tasks such as editing and formatting, which are visually painful for me. Tasks such as marketing and promoting, for which I have limited aptitude. My college writing teacher once said, “Writing is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. To be a writer, I must be willing to sweat a little bit.
